How to Fish Bean Achievement: Under 1 Hour Speedrun Guide

Bean asks for exactly one thing: finish the entire game, including the final boss fight, in under one hour. That single condition transforms a cozy fishing trip into a speedrun where every coin and every second is budgeted, because you are compressing roughly six hours of content into sixty minutes.

The run will spoil the intended experience. You skip most locations, ignore side activities, and never stop to enjoy the islands, so it is worth doing a normal playthrough first — ideally with friends in one of the 8-player co-op lobbies — before you chase Bean. Playing solo makes the achievement easier, because nobody else slows down your route or splits the money, but it is not a requirement. A coordinated group can still finish under the limit if everyone follows the plan.

The Lighthouse is your first starting location and the only real stop on the Bean route. Everything here is about grabbing the boat keys as fast as possible.

1. Get the Brass Knuckles and skip everything else.
2. Upgrade the Brass Knuckles for $58 and buy the Beer for $12.
3. Spin 360 degrees around every creature you fight — a full rotation grants a 1.5x multiplier that earns you more credits.
4. Keep $3 as savings. You will need it the moment you land at the Volcano.
5. Use the Dry Beer Can to lure out the Spider Crab boss.

For the fight itself, stay close to the Spider Crab to save time rather than kiting it around the arena. Move aside when it charges in, then hit it from the back while it is dizzy. Defeating the Spider Crab gets you the boat keys, and from that point the route points straight at the Volcano.

The Volcano is the last location in the game, so heading there directly from the Lighthouse is normally a terrible idea — but with a one-hour limit there is no time to clear the islands in between. Navigation is the main challenge of this leg, so keep these pointers in mind.

• Use the sun in the sky as your guide: from the Lighthouse it sits to your left and in front of you on the way to the Volcano.
• The game freezes for a brief moment when you are close to the Volcano — treat that hitch as confirmation that you are on course.
• Do not buy the Radar. It costs coins you cannot spare on this route.

When you land, spend the $3 you saved on a Fishing Rod. Use the free lure to catch basic fish and grill them in the lava — grilled fish sell with a 1.5x price multiplier, and that multiplier funds the entire run. Skipping the grill is the single biggest economic mistake you can make here.

Phase one builds your Shotgun while you grind:

• Buy the Brown Beginner Lure for $3 — keep it as backup only.
• Buy Dynamite and use it to scoop up as many smaller fish as possible, then grill them all in the lava before selling.
• Buy extra inventory slots so you can carry more grilled fish per trip and waste less time walking.
• Buy the Shotgun, then its first three bullet upgrades at $20, $30, and $40.

Once you have captured all the basic fish, switch back to the Fishing Rod for phase two: Pink Standard Lures for $15, the next Shotgun bullet upgrades at $200, $250, and $300, a few Orange Professional Lures for $50, the bullet upgrades at $1,500, $2,500, and $3,000, a few Scientific Lures at $500 each, and finally the last set of three Shotgun bullet upgrades. After that, save at least $20,000 to buy the Assault Rifle, then keep saving until you own every upgrade available for it.

Every boss on the route follows the same preparation checklist. Take the maximum allowed upgrade before you engage, use Dynamite to restock basic fish quickly, and carry extra food items in your inventory so you can revitalize your life mid-fight. In the first few seconds of each encounter, watch the attack pattern of the boss instead of rushing in — dying costs far more time than patience.

The final boss is a whale, and it is where most Bean attempts fall apart. Keep healing items stored at the Military base so you can restock, and try to lure the whale into the lava to deal more damage. There is no shortcut or trick for this fight — it takes a fair bit of time even with a fully upgraded Assault Rifle, which is exactly why the earlier legs have to be near-perfect. If you pass this hurdle, chances are you have made it within an hour of gameplay.

Most failed Bean attempts die from one of these errors rather than from a boss.

• Clearing the islands one by one. Community members doubt a full island-by-island clear fits under one hour at all; every known sub-hour run hinges on skipping straight to the Volcano after the Spider Crab.
• Buying the Radar. It burns coins that should go into Shotgun bullets, and the sun already tells you where to sail.
• Selling fish raw. Grill every catch in the lava first — the 1.5x price multiplier is your only realistic income stream.
• Spending the $3 savings early. The Fishing Rod at the Volcano is not optional, and without it the whole economy stalls.
• Fighting bosses without food. Extra healing items matter more than one extra damage upgrade when a death ends the attempt.
• Standing in front of the Spider Crab. Sidestep the charge and punish its back while it is dizzy instead of trading hits.
