How to Fish Mod Guide: Best Mods and How to Install

Find the best How to Fish mod for your playstyle: where to download mods on Thunderstore and Nexus Mods, how to install with BepInEx, and which to try first.

Last updated: Aug 25, 2026

How to Fish mods are real and already plentiful: the community publishes them on two sites, Thunderstore's How to Fish Mod Database (63 mods listed at research time) and the How to Fish section on Nexus Mods. Almost every How to Fish mod runs on the BepInEx mod loader, so your first install is always BepInEx, after which mods drop in as DLL files by hand or through a mod manager. The catalog covers everything from small quality-of-life HUD tweaks to a 16-player multiplayer mod and full cheat menus. This page rounds up where to download mods, how installation works, and which ones are worth your first slots.

Where to Find How to Fish Mods

Thunderstore hosts The How to Fish Mod Database, the larger of the two hubs, with 63 mods listed at research time. Its category filters split uploads into Mods, Modpacks, Tools, Libraries, Audio, Misc, and AI Generated, plus separate Deprecated and NSFW filters, so you can hide outdated or adult uploads while browsing.

Nexus Mods runs a smaller How to Fish section with the same idea: individual mods, a few modpacks, and per-mod download counts and endorsements. Both hubs were only days old at research time, since How to Fish launched on Steam on Aug 20, 2026, and new uploads were arriving daily. Some mods, such as Stackable Items and Check My Stats, are published on both platforms, so check both sites before assuming a mod is missing.

How to Install a How to Fish Mod

Nearly every How to Fish mod is built on BepInEx. The BepInExPack on Thunderstore is a preconfigured, ready-to-use BepInEx pack for Mono Unity games, and it is the foundation the rest of the scene assumes you have installed first.

From there you have two routes:

  1. Mod manager: Gale Mod Manager is a modern, lightweight alternative mod manager for Thunderstore that handles downloading and updating mods for you.
  2. Manual install: many mods ship as a single DLL you copy into the game yourself. The 16-player mod, for example, describes itself as install the DLL and play, with no configuration required.

Follow the install instructions on each mod page for the exact BepInEx folder path, and since the game has 28 achievements, check whether mods affect them before modding a save you care about.

One smart early pick is ModMenu, which adds a native mod settings menu to the main menu and the in-game pause screen, with automatic controls for BepInEx mod configs.

Best Quality-of-Life Mods

Most of the catalog is quality-of-life work, meaning small HUD, inventory, and information fixes that leave the vanilla balance alone. The standouts from both hubs:

ModWhat It Does
FishydexAdds the bait needed to catch every fish to the TAB menu
HeldItemNameHudShows the held item name above the hotbar and current bait above the bait box
Stackable ItemsStacks the same item into one inventory slot
AmmoCounterWeapon HUD with magazine ammo, weapon name, attachments, and an optional StatTrak-style kill count
BossHPExact, synchronized boss HP numbers beside the native bar, with configurable fill color
FishHPNative-style HP bars on non-boss creatures you damage, with configurable color
SpeedometerMovement-relative and world speeds, including boat travel, in Unity units per second
ColorfulPointRecolors map dots: red for weapon drops, blue for tools, green for player deaths, orange for bosses

A few more deserve a mention. WashCookedItems lets you wash items you cooked by accident, and True First Person shows your arms and a fully animated body in first person. Fishydex pairs nicely with our Fish Guide, and BossHP makes our boss guides easier to follow when you can see exact health. If you want several tweaks at once, the Enhanced HowToFish modpack bundles quality-of-life mods into a single download.

Gameplay-Changing Mods

A second cluster of mods changes how the game actually plays, from new weather to new movement:

  • WeatherExpansion (beta): dynamic weather, a 24-hour day/night cycle, starry skies and meteors, ocean waves and wind, a boat radar glow, and a headlamp flashlight.
  • Day and Night Cycle: a simpler take where the sun moves across the sky and fog and lighting shift with the time of day. The clock runs off the server tick, so co-op players see the same time.
  • SuperCreatures: configure drop rates for Super (Drip) fish, slot machine item filters like Knives and Snipers, skin IDs, and fishing multipliers.
  • Fish Magnet: attracts large amounts of fish from a distance, pitched by its author as useful for dynamite fishing.
  • GreedySeagulls: seagulls steal from your hands, your rod, and the ground. A stolen gun fires as they fly, angered flocks swarm, and sometimes they just take the whole boat.
  • FishSlapper: slap your catch to raise its sale price, but every smack after the first might cost you the lot.
  • HTFSlide: sliding, a sprint toggle, and a launch boost when you slide off a ledge. Client-side.
  • HTF DoubleJump: a second jump after each landing with mid-air turning, pitched as a way to dodge flying fish.
  • GrenadeShotgun: turns the shotgun into a grenade launcher.
  • Skyboat Bomber: press F6 to fly your boat with mouse controls and unleash dynamite carpet-bombing.
  • How To Enchant: adds Minecraft-style enchantments to How to Fish.
  • How To Armor: adds consumable armor levels to each island.
  • HowToFishDroppedPersistence: the server host saves and restores items players pick up and then drop, keeping their enhancement attributes.
  • HowToFishUnified: separate gold-coin calculation plus common console functions, with Chinese and English support.

Multiplayer Mods and Cheat Menus

Vanilla online co-op supports up to 8 players per lobby, a cap set by Patch 1.0.4. The How to Fish More Players mod raises that to 16 by expanding the Steam lobby and network client limits, and it is a lightweight BepInEx DLL with no configuration required. We cover it in detail on the multiplayer mod page, and the base co-op system in our multiplayer guide.

Two uploads matter for organized modded sessions. CheckMyStats is a read-only multiplayer HUD tracking damage, money, catches, revives, teammate kills, and deaths, with reliable host-client stat sync. HowtoFishIdentityAPI is a shared identity-verification library that gives server-authoritative mods a stable, verified player key, so it is a developer dependency rather than something you will notice in play.

The scene also has outright cheats. Complete Cheat Menu packs god mode, flight, ESP, a free camera, aimbot, zero recoil, and infinite ammo, plus teleporting anywhere, spawning any fish, boss, boat, gun, or item, unlocking every skin, editing money, items, and kill scores, and a rigged roulette. The GUARANTEED-HIT AIMBOT promises headshots from any range, toggled with F8, and was the most-downloaded single upload on Nexus Mods at research time with 1.8k downloads.

Keeping Mods Working After Updates

How to Fish is patched often, with Patch 1.0.9 live as of Aug 25, 2026, and every patch can change the game code that mods hook into. Check your mod pages after each patch to confirm the author has updated; our updates page tracks what each one changes.

The ModUpdateChecker mod automates part of this chore by checking your installed How to Fish mods against their latest versions on Thunderstore. In co-op, also agree on a shared mod list before you sail: several uploads are explicitly client-side, like HTFSlide, while others are server-driven, like the Day and Night Cycle clock running off the server tick and DroppedPersistence saving through the host.

How to Fish is updated frequently (Patch 1.0.9 as of Aug 25, 2026). Treat live in-game values and official Dazed Games announcements as the final source when a snapshot differs.
