How to Fish Albatross Boss: Location & Fight Guide

Beat the How to Fish albatross boss: summon it on Island 4 with the Tuna, shoot it down with a sniper rifle, and claim the coordinates to Island 5.

Last updated: Aug 25, 2026

The How to Fish albatross boss is the second-to-last boss in the game, and it fights unlike anything you have faced so far, because it is a giant bird rather than an underwater creature. You trigger the fight on Island 4 by defeating the Tuna and laying its body out on the grass, which summons the Albatross. The winning plan is simple on paper: buy the sniper rifle sold on the same island, take scoped shots at the bird, and duck into a hut whenever it retaliates. Bring it down, hand the Albatross Head to the local NPC, and you receive a flash drive holding the coordinates to the fifth and final island.

Where to Find the Albatross

The Albatross is tied to Island 4, the fourth island in the main progression, and it does not spawn on its own. First you have to deal with the Tuna, the first of the smaller bosses — one source notes the Tuna is caught using the Professional Boss Lure. Once the Tuna is defeated, carry its body onto the grass of Island 4 and lay it out there. That offering is what calls the Albatross down and starts the fight.

The island's story sets the encounter up. When you arrive on Island 4, every NPC is hiding inside a hut, because the bird keeps flying over and attacking them and the locals are fed up and frightened. Killing the Albatross is how you free the island, and it is also how you earn the coordinates for the final stretch of the game.

Unlike earlier fights such as the Giant Piranha, this boss stays in the air instead of the water, which changes everything about how you approach it.

Gear and Preparation

By the time you reach Island 4 you will own several guns, but most of them are close to useless in this fight. The Albatross spends nearly the whole battle high in the air, and pistols, SMGs, and shotguns will miss shot after shot at that range.

The answer is the sniper rifle sold on Island 4 itself for $3,800, so earn and save enough money before you commit to the fight. If your funds are short, our money guide covers reliable ways to build cash. You also need to buy a scope so you can actually aim at the bird during the main fight — do not treat this as an optional extra.

The investment pays off. Each sniper hit deals about 250 damage, which is a lot compared to the other guns you own at this point. The trade-off is handling: the scope has a massive zoom, so you need quick reactions and well-timed shots to keep the crosshair on a moving bird. Plan around landing repeated clean hits rather than one lucky shot.

How to Beat the Albatross

The whole fight is a rhythm of shoot, hide, repeat. Because every one of the bird's attacks can be entirely avoided just by being indoors, the huts around Island 4 are your best armor. Set up near a doorway so the walk to safety takes a second or two.

  1. Lay the defeated Tuna out on the grass to summon the Albatross.
  2. Take position outside near a hut, scope in, and find the red dot on the Albatross — that is your aiming point.
  3. Fire, then quickly get inside the hut to counter its attacks.
  4. Wait until the attack is over, head back outside, re-acquire the red dot, and take another shot.
  5. Repeat the loop until the bird goes down, then pick up the Albatross Head it drops.

Patience beats aggression here. Each cycle only costs a few seconds, and forcing an extra shot while standing in the open usually costs more health than it is worth. If you are still working through the earlier islands, our walkthrough will get you to Island 4 first.

Albatross Attacks and How to Dodge Them

The Albatross has two ways of hurting you, and both are completely blocked by a roof.

  • Swoop: the bird dives down and attacks you directly. The moment it commits to the descent, get indoors.
  • Droppings: from altitude it aims droppings at your position. Stepping inside a hut avoids this hit entirely as well.

This is why the Island 4 villagers hiding in their huts is more than set dressing — the game is showing you the counter. Build the fight around the buildings: pick a hut as your home base, treat its doorway as your fixed firing position, and never let the bird catch you outside in the middle of an attack run.

Don't fight it in the open

Drops, Rewards, and What to Do Next

When the Albatross falls it drops the Albatross Head. Pick it up and deliver it to the Island 4 NPC — the same villagers who spent the whole fight hiding from the bird. In exchange, the NPC hands over a flash drive containing the coordinates to the fifth and final island.

That hand-in is the real reward, because Island 5 is where the last boss waits. One source slips and names that final fight the Bowhead Shark, but it is confirmed as the Bowhead Whale. Before you sail, it is worth reading up on Island 5 and browsing the full boss list so you know what the endgame expects from you.

Finishing this fight also closes out the Island 4 storyline, freeing the villagers from the bird that kept attacking them. From here the main quest is a straight line to the finale.

Common Mistakes

  • Bringing the wrong gun. Shotguns, SMGs, and pistols barely touch a high-flying bird. If you arrive on Island 4 without the $3,800 for the sniper rifle, farm the money first.
  • Skipping the scope. The rifle alone is not enough — you need the scope to track the Albatross while it is airborne.
  • Standing in the open. Every attack is avoidable indoors, so there is no good reason to tank hits.
  • Fighting the zoom. The scope's massive magnification punishes big aim corrections. Make small adjustments and time your shots between its attack runs.
  • Forgetting the head. The job is not done when the bird falls. Pick up the Albatross Head and turn it in, or the flash drive — and Island 5 — stays locked.
